Hi all,

Before I lay me down to sleep i thought I would ask you all what you would finish a shaving brush with?

This brush of course would see LOTS of water over it's useful lifetime. Would CA work or would it turn mushy? If water sealer is to be used, what is best that will not tarnish or change the color of the work?

Does it come in small containers?

Last question is on the glue to attach the head, would epoxy work or would that later have a problem with moisture too?

Thank you

Badger hair & Beech shaving brush.

Charles, I would probably finish it with some of the General Finishes Turners finish. I think the epoxy will be fine for the brushes. I have not put one of these together, but it should be fine.

I really like the new General Finish for turners- you can read more about it here-

On the old days threy'd have used varnish.

The water issue is going to be an issue for any finish.

Do you have a vacuum pump? If so you might put it under vacuum  with epoxy and a slow hardener liker West 209

Failing that most  any  catalyzing finish should be good dunno 'bout  super glue though.

my go to finish is General Finishes Enduro  pre cat 181

Yea Thanks Cliff, I pretty much figured out what I needed, I am using the Wood Turners Finish on those, I talked to a rep of the company that makes it and was told that as long as the brush didn't just sit in water all the time, that their finish should do just fine. THat's great because it does two things, seals the wood on the brush (you may have to reapply now and then) and it also is a food safe finish after it dries, so if a kidlet grabs it and starts chewing on it like a teething ring, it wont hurt anything.
