Last weekend I helped the kids build some tombstones for our front yard for the ghoul season coming up.
First we started with two pieces of 2' x 4' x 1.5" foam from Home Depot, it can be found in their insulation department. They cut the shapes out themselves with some basic cutting tools, and drywall knife, a small keyhole saw etc.
Dad heated them over the turkey fryer stove to give them the warped and rough look, the flame melted the foam and distorted it so they looked old and windblown.
Here we are with some tombstones painted with a base coat of grey.
The kids wrote the wording on the tombstones they wanted, and I melted the letters into the foam with a big philips screwdriver heated over the same turkey fryer flame. I was lacking a better tool to melt the letters in with so this is what was available without going out to buy something. After I melted the letters in the kids painted them black.
The really look great out in the front yard! And like I said, we paid about 5 bucks for each sheet of foam, plus a can of spray paint and a small half pint of black.
There ya have it! We ended up with about 11 or 12 I can't remember.

Those look spooky John, might just scare off all the tricker treaters
. I'll bet it was fun doing a project like that with the kids, a great way to spend time with them

Yes it was fun Greg. The moments are cherished in this fast paced world. Thanks for the compliments, candy is expensive this year so that would be a good thing!
