Hello my name is Eldred,
I am a middle school woodworking teacher and I would like to know if it is possible and or ethical to download videos for the purpose of making dvds to use in my classroom.
If it is possible and ethical how do you do it?
Thanks, Eldred

As a former teacher, I must admit I believe I have bent, circumvented and just plain broke about every copyright law to get teaching aids for my class.
If you use Firefox, there is an add-on called Video Download Helper. Makes it a snap to download/save videos on your hard drive. Here are some other sites

Eldridge, first thanks for joining up with The Patriot Woodworker.
In addition to what Lew said, I have also found that a simple email to the video producer 9 times out of 10 yields a positive response from them. Most of the videos you see on our site have been loaded up from YouTube and I have emailed the creators and asked them if they were ok with us using them and as I said, 9 times out of 10, I get an answer such as, "It's an honor for us to have our video on your site!".
Most of the YouTube woodworkers create the videos to share their knowledge and expertise and love it when folks think so highly of their video creating abilities that someone would even consider downloading it and using it.
I would like to encourage you to check out specific video creator who resides here on our site. His name is Frank Byers and he runs the YouTube channel for Woodcraft Woodworking Supplies and Magazine Publication. Click on Woodcraft's Channel to access their YouTube. And you can contact Frank Byers through us. Just visit his profile and click on "Send Message". They have a plethora of video shorts and not so short that are open source for the woodworking community. Ask him if you can download any of their videos for specific use in your class room.
In other words, it is always polite to ask first, it just takes a simple email to the creator and your off and running.
Tonight when I get in I will add a short list of video creators here who I know will be very receptive to you loading their videos for your kids to use.
And, spread the word to your classroom about us Eldred!!! We are a family website, and we'd love to see your kids here on our site learning about woodworking along side us.
Thanks again for being here Eldred.
