I'm not sure I understand your question Harry. I guess it depends on the cut. Most cross cuts like that I use my sled but I have an Osborne G3 miter gauge. I have a fairly tall fence so I have not added any thing to make it taller for the cuts I have made.

Not trying to make it taller just longer for more control. I ripped it down to just over 2" and now it feels better.

I don't have access to a camera right now. I haven't made a sled yet so what I've seen others do is mount a straight, 3/4" board to their miter gauge for more support.

On your sled, how tall is the back fence that you use to hold the stock against to get square cuts?

I hve a couple of different heights dependant upon the cut that needs to be made. the one I usually use is about 3" tall and 12" long. this is a comfortable height wich allows me to grip both the gauge and the fence comfortably.

Thanks. That 's what I was after. I ripped mine down to just under 3". It started out about 4 1/2" and I just couldn't get my fingers around it to where it felt safe.

Harry it is about four inches.
