Hot off the saw Monday May 14

Here we are another Monday morning, wow where did the weekend go.Here's a fresh cup of coffee for everyone to start the week

Saturday I was at the farmers market again, sales were slow for most all the crafters there. Spent some time in the shop yesterday, working on some wine bottle holders, stayed tuned for pictures at 11, as they say on the news.

We got about 1/2" yesterday, about the same earlier in the week. and it's been raining off & on here today.

Here we go with some pics of the wine bottle holders, I've got 2 more to finish. Real simple project, I made mine using a piece 10" long by 31/2' to 4" wide, the angle on the bottom is 36 degrees, the hole is 11/4" centered 2" down from the top. On my prototypes I tried an 11/2 hole but it was too sloppy, I also tried using a 1/4" roundover bit on the hole, but again too sloppy, making it hard to balance. All of these are 3/4" thick. I plan on making a couple with matching cheese cutting boards and need some suggestions on dimensions for the boards. Suggestions on a price for these ? the hardest part of making these is watching the glue dry

Got a couple of things finished over the weekend. Have 3 shows in a row so have to get something done.

Another Eagle portrait cut from Sapelle.

A client was looking for a different "End of the Trail". Made this one for him.

Red Oak - arrow head

Walnut - Indian and horse

Wormy Maple - front ground and big cactus

Sapelle - small cactus and mountains

Aromatic Cedar - sun and sunset cloud

Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Since I don't drink I opted for the cheapest bottle at wallyworld $3.97 a bottle good stuff I'm sure. I had the same question about a partial bottle so when I made my prototype, which I made 3 of using different angles and different hole sizes, I got a hold of an empty and filled it with water, then poured it down half way or so, then a little more, then empty and it still balanced, you just have to adjust where the neck is in the hole to get the balance point.

Looking good there Fred. On the end of the trail piece, using a combination of woods like that really sets that on apart . On the planes, trains, and autos, is that three separate pieces or are the all attached ?

Thanks for the look-see. The picture doesn't do the colors justice. Hard to get "real" colors in artificial light. That being said, yeh, I love to use the natural color of the wood. Makes a piece much more interesting - just like the colors you used in the bottle holders. My guess is that the glass container weight is the more critical of the placement of the bottle - interesting use of our high school physics classes.

No high school physics here, I've seen these on other forums in the past and thought they would be a quick sellable project so we'll see how they do.
