Another hobby of mine is my Aerogarden hydroponic gardens which allows one to grow herbs, leaf lettuce, tomatoes, flowers, etc - year-round with no soil added. I bought my first Aerogarden retail, but have had no trouble acquiring my other three machines from craigslist for very a cheap price. Machines are compact and quite stylish.
Machines are easy to set up and maintain. All that is required is a complete water and nutrient change weekly. Since there are no bees indoors, gently shaking the leaves will pollinate the plants. Each machine has it's own set of grown lights.
Aerogarden offers seed kits, but they are expensive. I buy the bulk items - nutrients which nourish the plants. and seed pods which hold the seeds while growing, and purchase my own seeds which makes it very economical.
The machine pictured has three determinate tomatoes plants that will reach a maximum height of 12 inches and should bear 100 fruits per plant. Other gardens not pictured have leaf lettuce, spinach, and pansies. There is nothing nicer than fresh flowers & produce especially in the winter time.
Since these are grown indoors, there are no bug or slug issues which means no chemicals needed to combat these issues.

It it can't be fixed with glue and sawdust - it's not worth fixing.
