My mower runs great, but it isn't mulching as much as it used to, it leaves piles of cut grass behind. And when the bag is attached, the opening just clogs up, nothing actually goes in to the bag. I have cleaned the bottom really good, any ideas?

For mulching, you need a good "mulching" blade. For putting the clippings up in a bag, you'll need a sharp "normal' non-mulching blade. Kind of like the blades on a tablesaw, some work better than others for a given cut.

Sounds like you blade needs sharpened. May I suggest a final finish of the 8000 water stone?

God bless and protect our troops that serve so we can be free.
Although Wayners kidding, I do file the edges of the mower blade after grinding. THEN, I wrap some 400 wet or dry paper over the file and polish the cutting edges.
Think "microsope" and you will the realize the benefits.

Sorry guys, I forgot I posted this! Now that I have inspected the mower, no the blade is dull, chipped and ready for the grinder. I'll give that shot and see if it changes the dynamics of grass collection mulching. Thanks for the great tips!

One other thing that should be done regularly but many of us don't think about is to clean the bag. The bag is porus and gets clogged with dirt. If it's clogged air won't pass through and the clippings don't travel into the bag. Same principle as the bag on a dust collector.

Man, I didn't think of that!!! Great point Mike!!
