Happy New Year all. Finally got my Christmas present out of the box today. Wife gave me a Bosch 1617SPK combo router. I have been looking online for help setting this up to my table I built for it. The manual is a little intimidating. Never used a router before.Does anyone sites I can visit for help on setting up and using a router.
Thanks
Dan

Dan; Check out the woodworking part of this forum.
This past week a link was posted by Reid Smith for a Router E-Book download. I haven't gone thru it all the way yet, but what I've read is very good.

Dan there are a lot of ways to approach this. I have several routers in my shop and one that is mounted to my table. I do remember seeing a set of plans for mounting a router and using a hinged top for access for changing bits and removing the router for hand use. If memory serves me correctly it used cam style clamps to hold the router in place and easy access to use it it by hand unlocking it from the table bottom. It would be a shame to loose the plunge aspect of the router sine I use it quite frequently but then I have 5 routers in my shop also. Hope this helps.

These guys used to be on our local PBS station. Maybe you could find some information there-

Dan I have that router in my table, what kind of help are you needing, maybe I can help out.

Permalink Reply by Dan Shuflin on January 1, 2012 at 6:34pm I made a homemade table from ShopNotes Tools & Jigs. Do I need to buy a plate and mount it to the table then mount the router to the plate or do I just screw the router into the table?

Dan, I have the Woodpecker Router Table Insert in my table. I love it.

Dan, you need to get a plate of some sort and attach the plate to the router so you can drop it in from the top like John is talking about. Mounting the router to the underside of the table is limiting in a couple of ways, the most important will be how high you can raise your bit. I made a router table from a couple of pieces of re-purposed counter top and a router plate from a $2 plastic (UMV I think) cutting board from Wal-Mart... but I'm cheap.

Does that router plate come with a template or do you need to purchase one separate. It does not mention one on the website.
Thanks
Dan

Dan, I believe it came with one. You might want to call their 800 number and just ask that. I do have a template at the house. I didn't use theirs since I had a Cast Iron table. That's what makes me think it came with one.
