I went out and got a Buck Brothers iron for the Red Plane. Needed sharpening, not a big deal. Also sharpened the #110's blade, as well Buck Brothers had a hollow to the back, to help sharpen it, maybe? I also took a stone to the bodies of two of the three planes being rehabbed:
and I have the lever cap from the Stanley Defiance #3 all cleaned up. Ol'Red is down in the basement, sitting in a "soak cycle" to loosen that thick red paint. The tote is now super glued back together. Still have plans to make a new one, along with the front knob. Just an up-date...

This website is new so it doesn't have much to it yet but you are welcome to take a look :)

Buck Brothers is from Home depot, and the iron is only $3 ea. They also had a block plane style iron, but I didn't need one, yet. We're getting there....

More "re-hab', before I'm done with these, I'LL need the re-hab. Went out to the shop for a while today, just to "putter around". Tried to wire brush-on-a-drill to clean someone's red coat of paint off. Even tried a little brake fluid soaking to loosen things up. Mixed results:Mr. Stanley came clean, ol'red didn't. then I worked over the frogs as well:
again, same story. I think I'll call this good enuff. Now the not so good enuff. I also tried a new handle for the red plane. Bandsawed a blank out, shaped it down with a few rasps, and a belt of sand paper. Went to drill the holes, got most of it done, and was fitting it to the plane body......CRACK! @#@ &^&%$! Broke in TWO places. So, back to the wood pile, pick out another "victum" and sawed ( and RE-SAWED for thickness) on the bandsaw. Shaped the new blank down, and STOPPED. Until I find a "idiot-proof" way to drill the holes through the handle, I'll make do with the Bakelite ones. Need a glue up for enough size for the front knob anyway. A look at the tote "parade":
