Ok, this is really gross. We have had this vacuum for 10 years, a nice little Hoover, well when it was new it was nice. And all this time we thought it was doing a decent job at getting the dust and bunnies up and what little doggy hair we have. And it did. On the surface it looked like it was doing a great job. We get our carpet cleaned twice a year, and we vacuum regularly, so all is well right? Not!!

Yesterday our Vacuum took a dive, and we shot off to Sears and bought one of those tornado vortex super duper sucker bag-less jobbies, you know the ones you remove the canister and just dump it in the trash and replace canister back into the machine. You can actually see the lint going around in circles like a toronado.

Well we got the new one home an Electrolux Upright and let me tell ya, it let us know just how dirty we have been living all these years. I could not believe the lint, fine dust, dirt and anything else that got sucked up into that canister, just in a little 6 x 10 area rug we filled up the canister half way! How embarrassing! Needless to say we hit the whole house last night and when I got home Tonya was still working on the upstairs tonight. She was hitting all the rooms twice if not three times and the dirt was still coming up into the canister. She stopped vacuuming once the canister stopped filling. Look, either it's because our new machine is well, new, that it's doing so well, or it truly is a great vacuum.

No wonder our youngest son has been having issues with his allergies! It sure feels good knowing we are clean once again. I came home tonight and I hit our upstairs with our Hoover Steam Vac after Tonya finished with the dry vacuuming. Tomorrow I'll wash the rest of the floors when I get home from work.

Electrolux! Great machine.

Exactly the reason we got rid of all the rugs and have hardwood floors throughout.  Swifter and done.

Great point Randy, we have hardwood on the bottom floor with two area rugs. Basically a swiffer 1st floor, but the upstairs bedrooms and hall are carpeted. What a mess!

The better quality machines will typically out do the standard run of the mill machines. But they can cost a pretty penny! When we bought a better quality Eureka (I think) that was "bag-less" so we have the canister, it really made a big difference. In our house we have tile and wood laminate downstairs with some area rugs on them. Upstairs we put in a good quality carpet back in 2005/2006 when we did our bonus room addition. It was after we got the new carpet that our old machine died and we got the new one. When I vacuum upstairs I empty the canister before I start and empty it again when I am done and it does a good job.It has helped me greatly with my allergies and asthma having a better vacuum. Also our Schnauzer is hypoallergenic and does not shed or have dandruff, so that makes things much much better than when we had our black lab that shed.

But of course in your case John it is not a problem with the vacuum but that you are just a dirty woodworker.

Man you got that right! I track that stuff in all over the place, mama throws a fit and whacks me upside the head and tells me to take my shoes off, I just forget half the time is all.

Just your shoes?

Wouldn't it be nice to have some sort of decontaminating chamber, with air instead of liquid, right at the shop door?

Ever gone into a store that has no door, just air keeps the weather out?
