Hi guys, finished my router table. I am ready to buy a few bits. Can anyone suggest a brand. I am not interested in buying the cheapest or the most expensive. I have learned to buy quality and you don't have to rebut later. Any suggestions.

I am looking for a 45 degree chamfer bit. I have noticed they make them in several different sizes. I need to chamfer a 3/4" board. Why would you buy a 3/8 versus a 3/4" bit?

Thanks

Dan

Dan I have a variety of bits from different manufacture. I have several Woodriver bits from Woodcraft, Bosch, freud, MLCS and a few I'm not sure where I got them.

On a chamfering bit, if you are using the fence you can just use a part of the bit to put a small chamfering on. So you can get a larger bit and just use the part you need.

I agree with John. Buy the bigger bit an play with it, you will see how you can use it to achieve different results. It is always best to play with some scrap pieces before you make the good cuts, as with anything else. Gives you the opportunity ti "fine tune" you cuts.

And even if your using the chamfer bit in a hand held router you can still adjust the depth to take less or more off because you'll have a bearing to ride the edge of the work piece instead of the fence on your table.

My primary "go to" place is MLCS http://www.mlcswoodworking.com/ as they have decent quality, great prices, great customer service, no tax and free shipping and I have never been disappointed with their products. I use them for my rail & stiles bits as well as my straight, flush trim and spiral bits. For my decorative edging bits I prefer using the Freud Quadra Cut bits as they leave the cleanest edges that I have found from any of the other bits that I have used. They are a bit pricey, but they are worth it and last a long time. I have a 3/4" round over bit that I have been using for the past 2 years on all of my cutting boards and it is still going strong and it hasn't been resharpened yet!

the ONLY  router bit I'll buy any more is Whiteside.

I got a panel raiser from them a while back, I was unhappy with the one I had. and I gotta say it's like the difference between using a AAT-52  and a silenced sub sonic  MP 40

Smooth as silk no noise perfect cut

I'm a fan of whiteside

Whatever style bits you buy I suggest you go with WHITESIDE bits.
