Hi, All!
Well, this is the first post in our weekly get together. Some of you have already sent me suggestions and comments. Please know these are sincerely appreciated and PLEASE don't stop!!
Most of you know my background is in education. With that in mind my hope, in part, for this forum is to be able to post turning videos- or links to videos, turning jigs, turning tips and web sites with stuff we need (or at least think we need) to help us all learn more about this addictive pass time.
Remember, this is your sight and your forum! So, please post what you are making and/or turning in your shop. Show us your progress on that special project. Always give us picture of your finished projects because we LOVE pictures!!! If you made a video of how you created a project, post it here- or at least tell us how we can see it.
So for this week's "Wisdom"- here is a link to a short video of a turner making a useful item for the home http://youtu.be/LgsDWb0orSQ
One last thing, please be sure to select the "Wood Turners" category (if applicable) when posting your material. We don't want to miss out on your projects, comments and ideas!
Thanks for coming along for the ride!

To help kick it off Lew, I am starting to put together my inventory for this years craft shows. I should have some pictures of pens I will be turning this week and I will have pictures tomorrow of some pens my son-n-law turned to help me out.
The ones I will be turning right now are all slimline kits from WoodCraft.

Hey Lew, that video is pretty neat. That is an awesome shade. My only question would be how to you keep it from warping as the wood dries and bulb heats it up.
Other than that, it is pretty cool and he does a great job of turning it.

Thanks for all of the kind words on the "first edition".
John- looking forward to seeing the pens pix. Also, saw an article by a guy who turns vases. He uses green wood and said that by turning the walls VERY thin, it actually reduces the warping and splitting. Can't prove it because I can't turn anything that thin!

Greetings All
Our wood turners club got bloke who does turn bowls that thin, around 2mm from very green wood, he then places them into paper bag for 2 months and gives final sanding. They don't warp or split due no moist left in the wood. 2 months in paper bag is just to give any end grain time to lift its head up, as he calls it "spring clean up or hair cut time". He then does piecing to them and air brush painting work.
Like you said Lewis, it is very hard at the beginning to turn that thin....

Keep on turning, if not today, do it tomorrow.

Thanks, Jari, for that link!
