Profile Information

Please tell us about yourself.: I am 63 and have been married to my bride for going on 41 years and we have one son who is 31.

My experiences in working with wood began some 55+ years ago in my Grandfather Moore's porch swing manufacturing company. His business was close to where Mom, Pop, and I lived and I would go over there almost daily and watch Grandpa and when he had extra time we would build very simple projects together. I then took 4 years of shop in high school, choose wood as an emphasis in college within a comprehensive major of Industrial Tech, and then went on to teach Industrial Tech (woods, metals, drafting, power mechanics, etc) with an emphasis on woodworking from 1970-1985. I have co-owned a wooden lure mfg. company for 9 years and a couple of other small mfg. companies over the years mostly dealing with recycling. I designed and built every stick of a 2 story gambrel 2000 sq.' barn type work shop about 23 years ago in our back yard and then designed and built a cross-gable (L shaped) building some 8 years ago that that also sets in our back yard and I do most of my woodworking in it. I collect and restore vintage wood and metalworking machinery, vintage hand tools, etc. and for the most part have both shops outfitted with machinery of the WWII and earlier era.

Although I have been around "shop" related subject matter most of my life, I still enjoy learning.

Again this hillbilly engineerin idea was born out of not wantin to cut a strap or tie-down on the sharp edge of machine, etc. when ima haulin stuff. i also cringe when someone places a chain over the edge of a cast iron machine and then booms it down cause there’s a good chance of buggerin-up the edge of the cast or the chain diggin in and scarin the cast iron sooooos i offer the following …

It has been a spell since i posted any of my hillbilly engineerin ideas so here goes 1 that may or may not be useful to some of U.
