Larry, on your stairs, the reason I mention 10" tread cut out is to allow for a riser if you are going to close the riser in and it will still allow for over hang of the 12" treads. Now since the third rise will end on the landing you will need an additional four or even 5' of landing width to make your turn for the other 12 rises. Of course you already knew that didn't you?

I'll draw you a drawing and post it or send it to you via email.
