My New Web Site;

Good Evening one and all,Well folks I'm back and the wife was only home two days and the nurse had to call the squad for she had caught pneumonia again. She is in the Madison County ICU but after a few days she is somewhat better but the doctor isn't wanting to release her for a few more days. Hopefully she will be back home soon, however she will still need 24/7 care as she is now bed ridden for the most part but, I can see her from my seat here at the PC. I am proud to announce my new web…See More

UP DATE ON MY WIFE;

Good morning Friends,Well folks I will be bringing my wife home Monday for she has reached 100 plus days with coverage on the 16th of this month and Tri Care for Life won't pick up the bill because, she has reached the point of no return and unless God helps her out she will never walk again.I cannot afford the $267.00 per day just for her room and board and that does not count for her medicine or blood work. As it is I will have to pay for the coverage from 16 August to date of when I bring…See More

Please tell us about yourself.
Most of all of you know me and all about me from WOOD ON LINE. However maybe there are few on here who don't know me as well as my friends from WOOD ON LINE, so here we go.
Since we are Welsh and when a boy in the family turned 13 years of age he would start serving his apprenticeship under his grand father in the family trade and our was woodworking so on the 16th day of April of this year I completed 62 years in the woodworking trade and am still going strong operating my own business out of my shop behind my house specializing in Arts and Crafts Furniture which has now recognised from sea shore to sea shore and border to border. Now that I am here on the American oodworker I will try to help anyone with a question on woodorking.
Please describe your main woodworking interests.
I love woodworking because, it has been my way of life and it gives me the chance to teach what little I know about the business.

THE ART of WOODWORKING The Construction of a corn crib

Posted on January 18, 2011 at 4:00am 5 Comments

Today's farmers now have combines with different heads on them for picking corn to combining oats, wheat and soy beans however back in the days of the not so modern farmer they had to have sheds and or cribs to store things and a corn crib was erected to store ears of corn on the cob so they could be later ground up to mix into the feed or just toss a couple of ears into the hog pen and let the hogs have a feast.

Now in the construction of such a crib would be made in a convenient…

THE ART of WOODWORKING Installing windows and doors in a barn;

Posted on January 12, 2011 at 4:29am 0 Comments

Once you have a barn closed in and under roof one would want to include windows, (if needed) such as in horse stalls or cattle loafing areas so they can be slid open for cross ventilation. Installing windows is an easy thing to do for you can make up the windows with as many sections of glass as needed for the effect of allowing an certain amount of light in the stalls or loafing areas. A sill would be installed so the window can rest on it with window stops surrounding the windows and which…

THE ART of WOODWORKING The method of installing verticle siding;

Posted on January 9, 2011 at 5:00am 1 Comment

Once the perlings are installed the next thing is the placing ot the vertical siding on the structure especially if it is a barn.

With the perlings set on 2' on center layout the boards are of random widths and lengths and when two boards are used to make a length the joint where one over laps the one below it will be cut on a 45º angle as well as the top of the one below the joint so rain water will flow past the joint rather than into the joint which would cause rot within the…

THE ART of WOODWORKING; Installing perlings

Posted on January 5, 2011 at 4:51am 1 Comment

After all of the vertical posts were set in the construction of the barn, shed or any other of a post and beam structure there would be horizontal boards called perlings would be installed every 2' on center so one would have a nailing surface to secure the vertical siding with random width boards and the joints of the boards would then be covered by thin strips of wood called Batten strips. These strips were usually 1 1/2" in width and if not long enough to reach all the way to the top of…
