OK gang, time to pull out all the stops. I just got drafted to repair a 100 year old children's maple rocker and I to bend an arm on it but have no steamer. Therefore, I must make one. Oneone have…Continue

While we were in Branson for the OWWAMO's gathering, my wife spied an oak cabinet that had a tip out front for a trash can. The quality was marginal and had a flat front, the shelf for the trash can…Continue

a couple of weeks ago I bought a 1947 Delta Unisaw at an auction. The same day I threw an opening bid of $20 on this late 40's Craftsman 6 1/8" jointer and won it for the $20. I tore it down and…Continue

Well, after a 10 hour drive back from Branson and a good night's sleep in my own bed I am ready to tell all about it. We spent 4 days in Branson, saw a tremendous show (SIX), ate alot of good food more more importantly we made a bunch of new friends. The gathering at the Hollister YMCA gave us all an opportunity to learn about motor troubleshooting, drill and lathe tool sharpening, Google Sketchup and more. Dan and Carolyn Wyatt did a bang up job of hosting the event and Dorothy and I…

For two years I have heard about John Moody's lumber stash, so last week I traveled to Alabama seeking the holy grail of lumber. I felt a little like Indiana Jones in the search of the lost ark. After spending a few days in Birmingham (I had to have a diversion) I headed north to Florence Alabama to seek out John and the mother lode of lumber. We arrived at high noon and and actually caught him working when we…

What do you do in the flyover zone (Indiana) in Autumn? You help a new friend move 7 tons of machinery. Darcy Warner lives about 70 miles north of me and we were at the same sale a couple of weeks ago. He bought machinery and I bought wood (about 1200 BF of it I may add). Dan Wyatt needed a drill transported to Missouri that was located near Darcy so when he came to pick up his new toys he brought the drill so that it could be stored in my garage. Then, we spent the next 3 hours moving…

The Before
Every once in awhile you take on a project out of the love of woodworking rather than for money. This was my most recent project. A couple of weeks ago a friend asked me to look at a table that he wanted to give his daughter for her apartment. He didn't want to spend a…

Jason Ingraham said… Hi Ron, I'm actually a beginner! I just started acquiring tools and am currently working on my first project. I joined this site to get ideas and was particularly interested in the coin displays. I've been lugging my coins around for many years without a way to display them and I'm interested in attempting to build my own.
Good to meet you too Ron.

Jon James said… Thanks to you all. You certainly are a friendly group. Thanks for inviting me in. Out to the workshop now to start to assemble my thickness sander. I'm in north central Ontario and the weather has been keeping me in the house for the most part. Best regards. J.

Jenny Burger said… thank you for the welcome.....my husband owns a machine shop and we had a guy in here last summer making these amazing jewerly, trinket boxes on the lathe.....if I figure out how to post some pictures I will.....I do smaller works with wood. Right now I am working on a Bonsai wood stand for my friend. This is a pretty neat site and inspiring for beginners.
