THIS BLOG SERIES WAS CREATED A YEAR AGO, I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON GETTING IT TRANSFERRED FROM ANOTHER SITE TO OURS. THANK YOU FOR READING!
The back brace form was a nice little warm up to get in the rocking chair building mood. It's been awhile since I had a chance to run some solid maple through my table saw and smell that wonderful aroma of wood in the air. While building the form I had a couple questions for Hal and as usual, his replies were literally within hours and again, if you need immediate help, he is available by phone.
Most of my questions I had for Hal, were actually answered as I was building the form, in other words, If I take the plans at face value, and just go with it, then it all comes together in the end and most if not all questions get answered just by doing the work. I am understanding that with this project, you need a leap of faith, and just do what the plans tell you to do, and it comes together, your questions will answer themselves.
See below my finished back brace form.

In the following photo you will see how my form is marked per Hal Taylor's instructions for the different rocker sizes.

During one of my question and answer sessions with Hal, he found out that I had used iron angle material for my side braces on my form, he told me that the iron will cause dark spots to show up in the wood from the reaction of the moisture in the wood and contact with the iron, ooops, I should have know that, and I had the chance to buy stainless steel but I passed it up. So per Hals advice, the angle iron will have to be wrapped in packing tape during the glue up of the braces. Live and learn, and that is what is so neat about this project. Next comes the rocker forms.
See ya all next time, thanks for dropping in.
