Jack,

I'm ashamed to say that I hadn't noticed this video until today. That is a great machine. The overhead handle is interesting. I ended up buting a Sagar side-by-side. It's somewhere between FElixstowe anf Newark right now.

Nice job on the restore.

Larry

the princable all aplye no mater the size of youe system.

As for building a 3hp RPC you a get a kit from American Rotary with a built in startere for tha size for $255.

here

if all you want to run tho is 3 hp a VFD is a lot cheaper than a RPC and is mush cleaner power. They are so easy to wire a monkey could do it. many people run one motor at a time with a 3hp VFD as there 3 phase power source. what is not to common is that it  will run 5 hp motors as well(giving you about 3.5 hp of the 5 hp motor with no harm to ether the motor or the VFD and much better that an static convertor.)  .Cost for this is only $185 and you don't need an idler motor. look here

I have found that for phase convertion a VFD in the best way to go for motors up to 3 hp(and some times 5 hp) after that the price of VFD get spendy$$$$$. So really the smallest RPC i would build is a 5hp . any way some thing to think about.

Larry

If you ever have any question on the best/chepest way tp power up three phase motors from your home power sourse do not think twice to ask. I would love to help in anyway i can

Jack,

That system is way more than I would ever require. I'm looking to build a much smaller unit for 220 volts, using a 3 H.P. motor. Very impressive unit you built for your machines though.

Larry

The Stenner is 600volts three phase(that's a common industrial power voltage for industry in Canada) to deal with this i built a automactic 3 phase system with a RPC(got cheep off CL) and used transformers. I made the auto start part of the RPC starting system with control station around the shop. The system gives me 4 voltages in the shop. 120 and 240 single and 240 and 600 three phase. I allso have VFD(up to 4 in the shop right now) and can start a 10HP motor and run up to 30hp on the three phase alone.

this is the starting a distributions system for the RPC that is in that hole to the left that is sound proof.

this is the starting system that was made from part pulled on a rigging job by a buddy . total cost of the system was about $250 and this is wired in 600volt class. That box is a number 3 magnet starter rated for 90amps and new are about $750.all this stuff is tossed in the garbage

so if you have any question on 3 phase will help you out on most of the ways of running this big or small three phase machinery.

That makes it look to easy Jack,

Great job on the restore.

Are you using a RPC for 3 phase? If so did you build it yourself?

Larry
